Guide to Creating Your Own WordPress Editor Buttons

Most likely you know that WordPress is bundled with the HTML WYSIWYG editor, TinyMCE. The variety of features, and the ability to be extended though plugins, make it the most used WYSIWYG editor in the world. WordPress doesn't make use of all its features, however. WordPress customizes it and only keeps parts which are really helpful to users, avoiding messing up the user interface. That also means some features, buttons for example, have been hidden from users. You can totally enable the hidden MCE buttons. Typically they are stylesheet, sub, sup buttons. If even the hidden ones still don't satisfy your needs, then you have to create a TinyMCE plugin to do add your own. In this tutorial, I will walk you through the basics of adding your WordPress Editor buttons by creating a TinyMCE plugin.

Why some people hate PHP

This is a repost of my answer to the Quora question: Do a large majority of people hate PHP solely because other people do so?

There are a lot of reasons people “hate” PHP, or at least look down on it. Some of them are founded, some are not, and some of them are circumstantial.

Take your shortcodes to the ultimate level - GenerateWP

WordPress Shortcodes have become a standard in any premium theme or plugin, just as they should. They allow users to design and organize posts or pages, add functionality and insert elements without learning web development languages and programming techniques.

Even though they are easy to use, there are just a few things that are still difficult with shortcodes:

Shortcode tags – When you have many shortcodes, it gets tough remembering the name of the shortcode tag you want to use.
Shortcode attributes – Shortcodes can have many attributes and remembering the name or what each one does is impossible, and you are likely to get some wrong.
Shortcode editing – When you have use many shortcodes in your content editor, the editing of the content gets messy and it’s hard to understand and follow the content flow.

Google SEO Ranking Factors For 2015

Links have been a relatively long-time ranking factor for SEO and expect no different in 2015. We did see that quality backlinks are important and the total quantity of links are still an important SEO factor. However, links with exact-match keywords are becoming less of a ranking factor.

When another website links to your website, Google views this as a trust ranking factor. You can view it as if it is a vote for your website. This is why you should only link to authority websites, websites that you trust. Backlinks are always going to be important, that is likely to change anytime soon.

Guide To WordPress Coding Standards

Whenever we set code to screen, we must follow some sort of logic. You may well be the only person who understands that logic, but you still make the effort. The reason we follow standards and practices is to adhere to a common logic, so that we find each other’s code understandable and sensible.

3D Curtain Template in CSS and jQuery | CodyHouse

The 2-blocks design approach is quite common nowadays. On one side the text paragraph, on the other a visual element. With this nugget we tried to “spice-up” the transition between the sections by simulating a movement along the z-axis while the user is scrolling (or using the 2 navigation buttons).

WordPress 3.9+ TinyMCE 4 Tweaks: Adding Styles, Buttons, Fonts, Drop-downs & Pop-Ups - WPExplorer

One of my favorite updates in WordPress 3.9 was making the TinyMCE version 4.0 core. The new TinyMCE looks a look cleaner (really matches the WP dashboard) and it has some really nice added functionality. A lot of my old themes and plugins had to be updated to work with the new TinyMCE so I spent some time digging through the API and figuring some cool stuff out. Below I’ll give you some examples on how you can extend the functionality of the TinyMCE. I’m not going to walk you through all the steps or what the code means exactly (this is intended for developers) but will provide you with the exact code you can copy/paste in your theme or plugin and then tweak accordingly.
