In a departure from previous iterations of this initiative, where young reporters were exclusively immersed in the YOG atmosphere, the Dakar 2026 program elevates the experience by incorporating targeted training and hands-on exposure to a diverse array of events leading up to the grand spectacle.

As part of their comprehensive training regimen, nine remarkable young women and seven equally impressive young men, all aged between 18 and 24, have already embarked on their inaugural journalistic endeavor during the Paris 2024 Mountain Bike test event held from September 21 to 25.

This transformative program, is a brainchild of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in conjunction with the Association Internationale de la Presse Sportive (AIPS), and partnership with the Paris 2024 and Dakar 2026 Organizing Committees.

The budding reporters are set to immerse themselves in a holistic training experience, both in-person and online, led by highly accomplished industry professionals. Their curriculum encompasses a multifaceted approach to sports journalism, spanning disciplines such as photography, broadcasting, reporting, and social media coverage, ensuring that they are well-equipped to tackle the dynamic world of sports journalism with finesse.

While honing their skills at the Mountain Bike test event, these young reporters benefited from in-person training at the Paris 2024 headquarters and hands-on experience at the Olympic site nestled on the picturesque Colline d'Élancourt.

Simultaneously, a broader cohort of participants underwent rigorous online training, reinforcing the program's commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.

It's worth noting that all program participants are residents of African nations, either pursuing journalism studies or actively engaged as reporters, photographers, or videographers in the field. This diverse cohort comprises seven talented individuals from Senegal, and five from Kenya, with Uganda, Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Nigeria each contributing one promising journalist to the initiative.
