Noise-induced hearing loss

Noise-induced hearing loss is a problem where hair-shaped structures (hepatocytes) which sit just beneath the skin (the middle ear) are damaged due to loud sounds and/or linger for too long. When hepatocytes are damaged, the sensory nerve may send audio signals to the brain without the help of the sense organs, resulting in ringing in the ears.
