SQL is used for communicating with the database, it is a standard language for relational database management systems. SQL is generally used for performing tasks such as, updating the database and to retrieve data from a database. Furthermore, SQL is also used for modifying the index and table structure of a database and retrieving subsets of information from within a database for transaction processing and analytics applications. Queries and other SQL operations take the form of commands written as statements. The commonly used SQL statements include adding, delete, select, insert, create, update, alter and trim.
