Benzodiazepine Xanax (Alprazolam) is a benzodiazepine used to treat anxiety disorders and anxiety associated with depressive symptoms. Anti-anxiety medication is rarely prescribed for anxiety or tension brought on by everyday stress. The efficacy of alprazolam for long-term use (greater than 4 months) has not been evaluated.
