Navratan means “Nine Gems.” The beads symbolize the nine planets (Navagrahas) according to Vedic science and astrology, namely, the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and the two points of the lunar orbit (Rahu and Ketu). Each of the navratn beads vibrates with the energy of a particular planet.
