Snapdrop is a web-based tool for moving files between devices through a straightforward browser interface. Open the site, select files or a folder, and use the available device-transfer interface to send content to another device. The current homepage positions the service simply as an easy way to transfer files across devices, which makes it a convenient bookmark when you want to move something without reaching for email, messaging apps, removable storage, or a traditional cloud drive.

Snapdrop became widely known as a cross-platform, AirDrop-inspired file-sharing Progressive Web App. The classic project used WebRTC for peer-to-peer transfers, with a signalling server helping devices establish their connection rather than carrying the transferred file itself. The original project documentation also describes WebRTC transport encryption and support for self-hosting the classic application.

There has been an important change around this domain, however. The official Snapdrop GitHub repository currently states that Snapdrop has been acquired by LimeWire and directs users to snapdrop.net or LimeWire for the continuing service. The repository for the classic open-source Snapdrop implementation remains available.

For that reason, this bookmark is best described around what the current site provides—quick cross-device file transfer—rather than assuming that every technical or privacy characteristic of older Snapdrop deployments necessarily applies unchanged to the present hosted service.
