Psychopharmacology and Mental Health

Psychopharmacology is a vital discipline in mental health (Wegmann, 2012). Psychopharmacology explores how medical disorders influence the central nervous system. There are many conditions that influence psychotic manifestations. In order to make an accurate diagnosis of psychiatric conditions such as depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, dementia, and other psychotic conditions, medical disorders that also manifest with psychotic symptoms must be ruled out. Such medical disorders include infections, dementias, tumors, stroke, hypoglycemia, head injuries, vitamin deficiencies, and end-stage renal disease. Psychopharmacology teaches the principles of making accurate psychiatric diagnosis.
