Dog shows and competitions in Hartford should showcase disciplined pets—but even “trained” dogs can attack. At The Law Office of Michael Pollack, LLC , we specialize in complex cases where bites occur at events like Hartford Pet Expo or Kennel Club of Hartford competitions, holding organizers, owners, and venues accountable.
The Overlooked Risks of Dog-Centric Events
???? Hartford’s Hotspots:
Hartford Pet Expo: Crowded conditions stress even well-trained dogs.
Breed-Specific Shows: Handlers may overlook aggression in pursuit of awards.
Charity Runs: Dogs participating in Paws for a Cause events without proper vetting.
Case Study:
Client: Spectator bitten at the Kennel Club of Hartford show by a competing Rottweiler.
Evidence: Handler ignored the dog’s stress signals during a high-pressure competition.
Result: $625K settlement from the event organizer and dog owner.
Connecticut’s Laws for Event Liability
⚠️ Key Protections:
Premises Liability: Venues must ensure crowd control and dog supervision.
Handler Accountability: Trainers/owners liable even during “performance” scenarios.
Breach of Warranty: If organizers advertised “safe, family-friendly” events.
Statute Highlight:
CT General Statute § 22-364: No exceptions for “trained” or “certified” dogs in public spaces.
Your Action Plan After an Event Bite
1. Document the Scene:
Tickets/Receipts: Prove you were a paying attendee or participant.
Event Rules: Subpoena guidelines (e.g., leash requirements during competitions).
2. Identify All Defendants:
Owner/Handler: Liable under strict liability laws.
Event Organizer: Responsible for safety failures.
Venue: Accountable for overcrowding or poor design.
3. Avoid Industry Gaslighting:
Organizers may claim “these things happen”—we prove preventable negligence.
Why Event Cases Demand Specialized Tactics
Multiple Defendants: Sue owners, handlers, and venues in one case.
Industry Secrecy: Event contracts often force victims to sign NDAs.
Juror Bias: “Dog lovers” may side with handlers—we counter with veterinary proof.
The Pollack Difference in Event Cases
Event Reconstructions: Use drone footage or crowd maps to show safety lapses.
Handler Expertise: Expose trainers who skipped aggression protocols for competition wins.
No Fear of Backlash: We sue prestigious events and organizations.
Hartford’s Riskiest Dog Events
Competitions: Stress-induced bites during judging or training demos.
Charity Walks: Unleashed dogs in Bushnell Park or Elizabeth Park.
Pop-Up Markets: “Adopt-a-Pet” events with unscreened dogs.
