Hemorrhoids: Understanding their Pathophysiology

Hemorrhoids are a normal parts of the anorectum structure and contribute to the mechanism of anal closure, thus providing natural adjustment of anal continence. Formation of hemorrhoids is a common anorectal condition. The exact pathophysiology of the development of hemorrhoids is not well understood. This article reviews some recent theories postulated to understand hemorrhoids better.
