Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) is a disorder that causes maldigestion or inability to digest food as a result of a lack of exocrine pancreatic enzymes. EPI may be linked to a number of pancreas-related illnesses and syndromes, including cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, Shwachman-Diamond syndrome, and others. The most frequent cause of EPI in adults is chronic pancreatitis (CP), which is followed by cystic fibrosis (CF). CF is a chronic disease that affects the lungs, digestive system, and reproductive system. It is an inherited genetic ailment.
