In India, the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI) is the professional body that grants the Cost and Management Accounting (CMA) certification. To become eligible for this certification, candidates must meet the following requirements:
1. Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university. However, those who have completed their 10+2 education through National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) or Distance Learning are not eligible.
2. Professional Experience: Candidates must have completed a minimum of three years of professional experience in the field of cost accounting or management accounting. This experience can be gained before or after completing the degree program.
3. Examination: Candidates must pass a three-tier examination conducted by ICAI. The three levels of the examination are Foundation, Intermediate, and Final. The Foundation and Intermediate exams are conducted twice a year, while the Final exam is conducted once a year.
4. Continuing Professional Education: To maintain their certification, candidates must complete at least 20 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) each year. This can be achieved through attending seminars, workshops, and training programs organized by ICAI or other recognized bodies.
